New mobile number and scam call

I have recently cancelled my old mobile sky number and got a new sim with a new number m. I have only given the number to a few family members but within 3 days I have had a phone call (removed) saying it was SKY I did not believe it was so ended the call. I have looked the number up on google and it's says it's a scam. How can this happen with a new number that I have only just activated . I would appreciate a SKY employee also looking into this .

The sim you have got @SimonJake will have come with a number that is recycled because there are very few numbers across all networks because once a sim has been cancelled the number goes back into a pool that can subsequently be allocated to a sim on any phone network including Sky so from you have said it could be that this number has been in use before.

...or the scammers simply used sequential dialling.  All numbers are targets.
