My daughter has been charged £45 for the use of 20.38mb whilst landing on a flight to Morocco, surely this cannot be right??
Yup, it's spot on as data is £2.16 per MB. (And will be used in seconds on a modern Smartphone)
I called the sky helpline and got offered £10 off as I had been with sky over 25 years !!
That's actually very generous as they didn't have to offer anything.
Nice that I refused and got told there was nothing else that could be done, I feel I been robbed!!!
Unfortunately the charges were incurred as per the agreed contract. Always ensure the phone is in flight mode unless you're happy to incur 'Rest of World' charges. Or set the spend cap to a level you are happy to incur.
I will not be paying this 100%
That would be unwise. Refusing to pay can result in reports to credit agencies and other enforcement actions.

Re: Excessive data charges!
Hi @PJF1970 as advised the charges are correct. It's always best to check the roaming charges before travelling. I always turn off roaming and mobile data then activate flight mode BEFORE leaving the UK as if you wait til arrival at your destination then that's too late. Once at the destination just connect to free WiFi whilst flight mode is still active.

Re: Excessive data charges!
I'm sorry but where is the loyalty, over 25 years I have never missed a tv, broadband or mobile bill payment and get treated like this, I intend to cancel my whole account and find another provider to spend my money with, totally and utterly unfair charges!!

@PJF1970 Loyalty has nothing to do with this issue, the charges have been correctly applied as your daughter used the data, you don't have any valid claim to say they are unfair or to refuse to pay.
I would consider it a silghtly expansive lesson, make sure in future you or your daughter(whoever is the acount holder) knows the costs of using their device when travelling abroad.

Re: Excessive data charges!
It's a bit of minefield roaming in RoW locations.
I've checked a few other major providers and some charge £6 per MB!
(The majority of cost is imposed by the local telecoms firm at the roaming destination)

Re: Excessive data charges!
- Everybody makes mistakes, maybe a warning for future charges could have been used in this instance as it has never happened before that's what I'm referring to as loyalty, but no just charge the loyal customers more again, just like all the deals new customers get and we get nothing !

Re: Excessive data charges!
I'd suggest that expecting a call centre representative to remove a correctly levied charge is probably unrealistic: they are accountable to their own line management.

Re: Excessive data charges!
So who would you suggest I speak to, as its almost impossible to speak to anyone else other than a call centre representative?

Re: Excessive data charges!
Hi @PJF1970 you have already spoken to sky and they have offered a £10 discount. As mentioned by everyone on this thread the charges are correct, what are you expecting from sky above what they have offered ?

Re: Excessive data charges!
As you refused the offer of a £10 credit it's unlikely Sky will offer another.
