Blocked Mac book

I've had sky block my Mac book as I've lost it. I forgot to ask will this prevent anyone from using it at all? I don't understand how it works

Sky has absolutely no control over an Apple operating system (even if they sold the hardware) and MacBooks don't have Sky Mobile SIMs so there's nothing to 'block'.

This makes it rather hard to understand what it is they may have told you they've done.

As the link which @63johnw posted indicates, locking and remote wiping are Apple functions and carried out using Apple ID which hopefully you've got access to: Sky cannot do these for you.
