Watch via Sky Go

Can anyone explain what this option is for and should it be active as I have a Sky Go Plus subscription?

Hi @TheCableGuy996   Have you got a Multiscreen subscription?

Re: Watch via Sky Go

Hi @MightyQuinn

No, it’s a basic package with UHD as an add-on. No multi-room.

It was only installed today, but honestly... I’m far from impressed.

The engineer was brilliant, but everything since has been a downhill sprint into chaos.

Sky seems to go out of its way to stop you speaking to an actual human. When I eventually got through to one it's endless calls routed overseas, where having a fluent conversation is near impossible. I was transferred 15 times (not exaggerating), always to the wrong department. Every time it’s "you’ve been verified, we’ll explain the issue to the next agent" but they never do. You just get blindly passed along, and each time you’re back at square one... re-explaining the issue, redoing security, only to be transferred yet again. In the end, I just gave up and hung up.

Then the Sky-Q box decided to absolutely flood my network with multicast/broadcast traffic—likely SSDP or mDNS. It brought the whole setup to its knees until I scrambled to enable STP and storm control on the port just to claw back some stability.

And on top of that, half my account pages are showing as "restricted" and again, no one on the phone has a clue why.

It’s literally day one and I’m already this close to binning the whole thing.

Hi @TheCableGuy996   If you decide it is not for you, I would move quickly to cancel while you are still within your cooling off period.

Re: Watch via Sky Go

@MightyQuinnI’ll see how it goes... it’s up and running now, but it’s been a rocky start to say the least.

I’m still wondering what that feature actually is though? From your reply, I’m guessing it needs a multi-room subscription, but I’m still none the wiser as to what it actually does.

up and running, minus half my account pages being restricted.

Hi @TheCableGuy996   With multiscreen (note not multiroom), Sky Go is another screen. Without multiscreen you can use Sky Go to stream on-demand and live TV. With multiscreen you can connect to the Sky Q box and view recordings stored on the box. I have never heard of Sky Go Plus (do you mean Sky Go Extra). Either way I would activate it and see what happens. It should give you the ability to schedule a recording on the Sky Q box when you are away from home.

Re: Watch via Sky Go

@MightyQuinn Yeah, I did mean Sky Go Extra, I'm still getting used to all the package names and add-ons.

I'm ot sure what "Multiscreen" is though? I’ve heard of "Multiroom"... is that just a new name or is it actually a different package? And is it chargeable?

Also, I’ve tried hitting the "Reactivate" button next to the option, but after confirming, it just jumps straight back to the same page like nothing happened (as in the screenshot I posted earlier). Bit confusing!

Hi @TheCableGuy996   Multiroom is an old package with Sky+HD, with Sky Q it is called Muliscreen because people can subscribe to Multiscreen (definitely chargeable £15/month list price) to view on all their devices (phones, tablets, PCs etc.) plus use Sky Q Mini boxes to connect to other TVs. Note, I would check that your box is running the latest software (Q310). Home -> Settings -> System info. New boxes will be on the old delivery software.

Re: Watch via Sky Go

@MightyQuinn

Ahh, cheers... that clears it up. So that’s why it won’t let me activate it… I’m not subscribed to the Multiscreen add-on.

I definitely did an update earlier, it downloaded, I put the box into standby as instructed, and it went through the motions. But it’s showing Q300. I’m guessing it was a few versions behind and it’s doing step upgrades? I’ll give it another go.

@MightyQuinn

Multiscreen is not required for someone to have the ability to remote record when away from home.

Hi @TheCableGuy996   Q300 might be the latest on your box, it looks like Q310 is still actively being rolled out. Running another software update will not help.

Thanks @caesarome  We were talking about activating watch on Sky Go. So you are saying it doesn't need activating to schedule a remote recording?

@MightyQuinn

That is correct, it does not need activating as that option is there for the ability to connect the Sky Go app to the Q box which @TheCableGuy996 will not be able to do as they do not have multiscreen on their account.
