Sky go better quality

@TimmyBGood  I remember when Netflix wasn't even available in the UK. It would just be good if Sky improved the app which is clearly not fit for purpose and as mentioned Virgin do better quality streaming. Incidentally though Sky have brought out a new Sky Go/Glass stream app that they are developing and they have invited me to use it before release so will be good to see how this compares, it is looking good so far though but will be sure to update in the future.

Seriously, how are we still dealing with low resolution on Sky Go in 2025?

Other streaming services are giving us Full HD and even 4K as standard — meanwhile, Sky Go still looks like it’s stuck in 2012. Whether it’s sports, movies, or live TV, the quality just isn’t good enough anymore. It's frustrating when we're paying premium prices but getting potato-quality streams on mobile and desktop.

Any word on when Sky will finally update Sky Go to support at least 1080p (or better yet, 4K)? It’s long overdue.

Would love to hear if anyone else feels the same, or if there’s any update from the Sky team.

If you want better streaming then wouldn't Sky Glass / Stream be better than Sky Go?

 'Other streaming services' are app-only, so by definition need to deliver high quality into their software platforms or potential users won't subscribe.  Sky Go is always an add-on to a Sky Television hardware subscription, and realistically just isn't regarded by the powers-that-be as a priority compared to development time spent on Glass / Stream (particularly now Go is a legacy of the pre-Comcast era)

And I'd add that because Go is 'free' to the vast majority of Sky subscribers, I suspect it's seen as a cost to the company rather than an income generator...

I completely agree, you have really nailed this issue on the head.  

Once you've realise that you're streaming a paid for service is shockinly low resolution you come to the Sky Community Forums only to be met with forum members who rationalise or explain away really bad service or really poor funcitonality.   I presume that a lot of responses are Bots, the main reason for this is because they are never helpful and rarely supportive of genuine cusotmer issues.   

Sky Go, is a mobile variant of a paid for TV subsciption, no one, but no one want to hear "Sky is for watching on your TV" or other trite phrases.  YouTube, Prime, Disney, Hulu and many others allow 4k streaming in mobile apps.   The whole service just needs to be better.

Couldnt agree more!! What does frustrate me is we get a bit of rain and the signal goes down or it freezes or jumps about due to changes in atmospheric weather in this country surely its about time sky could have an answer to this problem by now ?  Even the last week and a half where the weather has been extremely hot i still had problems i phoned sky to be told that there is nothing can be done it is due to atmospheric weather conditions i rest my case!! And finally how much money do be pay for this service each month???

They do: it's solved by the upcoming end of satellite television broadcasting.  Precipitation scatter is physics and inevitable in severe weather: if your particular reception is regularly affected then it's likely either your dish is fractionally misaligned and could do with a tweak, or you are in a location where you'd be better off with a Zone 2 model.

Note that misalignment will affect Sky Go used by Sky Q customers when the Go device is on the same network as the main Q box, because in that situation live television channels arrive in Go through the dish via retransmission from Q.

As I indicated above (and frequently elsewhere in this forum) Go is a legacy platform which isn't going to 'be better' until it's replaced with a Comcast-era product, and realistically that's just not been high on their priority list.

I don't think saying so is 'rationalising or explaining away' anything : it's a summary of the current situation.

@TimmyBGood  I totally get that tbh and agree to some extent, obviously they wouldnt want you to not include Whole Home if Sky Go was 4K, howver I must say whislt Netflix is just a streaming service, I mainly use Netflix from my TV then when im "on the go" I use Netflix on my Ipad or Sky Go and must add im very dissapointed taht Sky Go still has 720p in 2026 ! I can only hope that they cahnge this at some point, it is worth noting Virgin supply full HD on the app on the go.

Aside from its now forgotten origins in DVD-by-post Netflix is a streaming-only service, though, and so had to put all its effort on delivering the best possible quality of content and user experience in its apps.  Go has always been an rather neglected sideline for Sky when compared to the hardware platforms (no matter what value some customers put on it) and unfortunately I'd suggest that's reflected in the amount of management attention and consequent investment which has gone into it over the years.

It's perhaps interesting that NowTV transitioned over to a Comcast* platform in 2025.

@TimmyBGood  thanks for sharing, I feel a new app has been overdue for a long time, I travel a lot and therfore download tv shows befoe I commute and teh quality on Sky is alwsys lacking unfortunately, whislt I apprecaite taht Netflix is different it is worth noting that Virgin do better quality on their streaming. Incidnetely though I did hear from Sky last night that theyre developing a new Sky Go/Stream app which uses the Sky OS and theyve offered me teh chance to sue it before it becomes live so it will be intersting to see how this goes.
