Features disparity and streaming quality.
Hi everyone!
I'm new to this community and I'm excited to join the discussion. I recently got Sky Stream and have been using the Sky Go apps on my Apple TV and Xbox One while waiting for the Pucks to arrive. However, I have some questions about the apps and their features.
When I lived in Germany, I had Sky Q STB via cable and Sky Go was included free of charge with up to 5 devices, including Apple TV. So, I wanted to compare my experiences.
Here are a few things that I noticed:
- The quality on both Apple TV and Xbox One isn't the best, and it drops frequently. I have over 200 mbps internet speed, so this shouldn't be a problem for HD streaming. However, the constant dropouts in quality make it unwatchable at times.
- The frame rate is also very choppy. I'm not sure why the German version can deliver a smooth experience just like the Sky Q box, but it's not the case here. Is there any technical limitation? I've read that this issue exists for all channels on NowTV, except for sports channels. Is there a reason why this is the case for the rest of the TV lineup?
- I'm confused about the difference between the Apple TV app and the Xbox One app. In Germany, they have the Sky Q app for Apple TV, whereas here it's only available on Xbox One. They look completely different.
- The Sky Q app is available for both Samsung and LG TVs. I have an LG TV and I find it convenient to use the numeric keypad to switch between channels. Sadly no native app available here.
- Lastly, I'm frustrated that I can't fully disable the PIN/parental control.
I'm hoping that the Sky Stream box will provide a better experience, especially when it comes to frame rate. I'm curious to hear from others in the community about Sky's decision to limit the user experience for the Sky Go apps.
Thanks for reading!

Re: Features disparity and streaming quality.
There is no Sky Q app in the UK: there was once, but it got bundled into Sky Go back in 2019.
Sky in the UK has never followed Sky (Germany) in having a Q app for smart TVs.
Fully disabling PIN protection is not permitted under the terms of UK television regulation as expressed in the Broadcasting Code: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/consultations-and-statements/category-2/mandatory-daytime-protection
