Sound output

Very recently changed to Sky Glass (gen2) and have an issue with the sound as below.

i gave the tv connected to my home theatre system via the HDMI (ARC) cable, when listening through the theatre system it automatically switches to the hdmi arc and sound and volume is controlled by the home theatre amp and sound comes from the theatre speakers.

However, when the tv is required to return to the integrated soundbar I have to go into settings and reset the TV sound settings, every time, if I don't there is no sound from the soundbar.

I cannot find out if this is correct or I'm doing something wrong, I have spoken to someone in technical from far away and they told me this is normal.

is this correct it seems very backward that you have to do this every time or disconnect the HDMI cable each time, it 2026, my previous system running Sky Q was easy with no switching issues

Re: Sound output

Why would you buy a tv with a built in soundbar, if you dont want a soundbar ?

If you have another sound system set up in the HDMI eARC port of the tv then it will continue to connect to that every time. You can't have the TV doing it automatically because how would it know which device you want to listen to @MCW this is why you have to manually do it.

Re: Sound output

I do want a sound bar for every day listening however when there is a movie or live music it's nice to go through a much better defined system, that's why.

its just disappointing that you can't select which output you would like, I mean why does it default to HDMI when the external system is not even on.

Re: Sound output

My old TV had a selection using the remote, if the external system was not on it just went to the TV speakers, seems a little backward.

If I have to physically remove the HDMI then so be it, just a pity it's not selectable.

Re: Sound output

Agreed however why can't you select it in the menu rather than having to reset the sound every time, as I've said before it seems rather backwards that it can't just be selected or not as the case may be.

@MCW have you tried pressing the button marked ... on the remote while estching a programme? This should give an opportunity to switch the audio output between ARC and the TV's speakers.

Re: Sound output

I have tried that many times and it just doesn't work, as above the only way was to either manually disconnect the ARC cable or reset the sound settings each time.

However I have a solution now which apparently it's not possible according to Sky Technical.

i have an ARC11 Extractor which I plug the ARC into from the TV and then using the Extractors Optical out to my Theatre System.

The Extractor is switched off/on using a Hive smart plug connected to Alexa, I could of course just turn the Extractor off/on using the plug socket its just more convenient using Alexa.
