HBO max stuck on renewal in progress

My HBO max is stuck on renewal in progress as I missed a sky bill whilst moving. Now when I'm trying to access hbo all shows and films are saying can't access with plan. I'm trying to downgrade it to with ads so I can in theory reset the subscription but when I do that it fails
