Email warnings regarding streaming outside my address

I keep getting emails letting me know I am streaming outside my registered address and warning of additional charges. I only use Sky at home so I am not sure why I'm getting these.   Tried calling Sky without luck.

Your ISP probably has given you a dynamic IP address. This will flag up on Sky's systems as you using your device at different locations. You may need to check with your ISP and see if they can provide you with a static IP address (which may incur a charge) or speak to Sky again and inform them.

A common cause of this, is some altnet ISPs sometimes provide a poor operation model of their cg-Nat supplied WAN addresses.

Would be interesting to know who your isp is?

The Sky Glass and Stream boxes do a number of checks, not just the WAN  IP, historical hub/router familiarity, GPS location determination along with its IP and ISP settings approximation, all aligned to your supplied account MySky set home address/postcode.

It can also be affected by using a local network VPN, mesh/router vpn type setting or any localised ad type blocking, so make sure your Sky Glass/Stream box is excepted from any of those.

Afraid, your only option is anotger call to Sky to work with them to help diagnose the reasons and fix your problem.

Re: Email warnings regarding streaming outside my address

Had this with my Asus Mesh system.  It's setup with 2 separate 5Ghz SSIDs and a 2.4 GHz one.  My Glass TVs and pucks were across all three of them, and Ethernet, for various reasons.

I spoke to Sky, had to go to every TV and Puck and take a photo of the SSID and MAC addresses they were connected to and upload it to Sky here, https://www.sky.com/myphoto.

They marked this in their system so I shouldn't get a message about this again from them, quote from their text message:

"Hi there, (name redacted) from Sky here. Just letting you know location charge exemption has all gone through now so don't need to worry about any charges going forward. Thanks, have a lovely day 🙂 NoReply"

I believe all domestic ISPs use dynamic addressing, and most (like Sky) don't offer fixed IP even as an extra cost option outside of their business products.  Glass and Stream were designed to cope with normal IP changes and won't flag these as dubious, so something else is happening here.
