It was probably being streamed with HDR. If your TV does not have a high peak brightness level then HLG HDR (the format Sky uses) can look dark.

@Hicksy1A lot depends on the quality of your TV, if you are trying to use HDR it depends on if your TV gives enough brightness to use Sky's version of HDR, many don't, with my TV a Sony I could turn off HDR and it was much better.

@Hicksy1 my LG tv doesn't have a high peak brightness level but Sky's HLG HDR content is spot on.

I just tweaked a picture mode that I don't use Game Mode  in my case  then whilst watching HLG/HDR content  adjusted each setting until the picture was spot on then saved the settings so when watching HLG/HDR content I don't have to keep on changing everything.

The Ashes 1st Test Day 1  (Channel 401)

Canadian F1 GP 2019 (Channel 406)

Some TV's don't like Sky's HDR format and content can look too dark .

If it's  too dark you can always Google best picture settings for your tv nothing wrong with tweaking a few settings to suit your viewing experience.

I'll probably have a look at golf when it becomes available in UHD later on
