Sky Glass Gen 2 65" Standby issue

Hi all,

I've read many posts on here regarding the Sky Glass TVs turning themselves off, and the post response from whomever, more often than not, is that it's an eco thing.  I do understand that manufacturers must adhere to governing rules of their trade, but, and this is a MASSIVE BUT, GIVE ME THE OPTION TO TURN IT OFF AT MY CHOICE IR WILL...!!!

Let's get this straight, I love my Sky Glass Gen 2 65" TV, really I do, despite it's incredibly MAASIVE price tag.  It has great picture quality, more than good enough for my environment, the sound is awesome (I'm not an audiophile), and I enjoy the experience of watching it & listening to it.  However, a couple or 3 times a month, despite all sleeper, voice, movement, eco and energy saving options being turned off, everything that would cause the TV to turn off, my TV turns itself off while I'm not observing.  Tonight I viewed for first time, while I was watching F1 UHD, my TV flash up that it was shutting itself down in order to save energy.  How dare it...!

Sky TV engineers, please add an option for me to disable this on my "Sky Glass Gen 2 65 inch TV" and stop my TV turning itself off because it thinks I'm using too much energy.  I do understand a need for EU or world directives, but I will decide when my TV turns off, I will decide how much energy I use, it is my TV, I own my TV, I pay my own energy bills and I do not live in a dictatorship, so please, sort it out ASAP...!

Thank you.

Paul.

Agreed ! At the very least there should be an option of 1 hour , 2 hour , 4 hour power saving

Re: Sky Glass Gen 2 65" Standby issue

Well, would you believe it, my TV has just this minute decided, without any warning, to reboot itself.  I was watching a recording on my Humax box, which was playing and only half way through, and the TV screen went black, audio remained, the TV then turned off and back on again, with only a couple or 3 seconds delay, all of its own accord.  The odd thing was, the recording on the Humax box had stopped playing of it's own accord too, despite not being controlled by my TV, which surprised me.  I've checked the recording by playing it back and it's fine; the Humax box had not turned off, it was waiting in the recordings menu.  I can only assume the box registered the destination had powered off & stopped accordingly.

I can only assume it was an update.  Sky engineers, please update the OS to post a warning message on screen if this is the case...!

I am currently dismayed, and my confidence in my TV reduces.

The tv is not overpriced, if you were to  buy a similar size tv and a good quality soundbar, it would probably cost more.

I beg to differ...I purchased a Samsung NeoCore 4k mini led TV in 55inch complete with soundbar and wireless sub for the same price of the Sky gen 2 and it came with a 6 year warranty👍. The only reason Sky can offer 4 year interest free terms is that it's a mid of mid range TV at best.

I wonder if you pop into the sleep timer section and selecting 4 hours whether that would overide this eco mode and provide 4 hours continuous viewing. Of course you would need to reset it before the 4 hours end, but maybe worth a try.

Hi @Nigel19076

Thanks for your comment.

That's not what I wrote, I said "incredibly MAASIVE price tag", which, for those with a small disposable income, such as myself, is a more than accurate description.  I'm sure others with a more substantial disposable income would have typed that in lower case.

Thanks,

Paul.

Hi @Hunter2660

Thanks for your comment.

That would be a good test, but the issue only occurs 2 or 3 times per month, so I wonder how many times I would need to reset.

I'll give that a go one whole day, as I'm intrigued as to the outcome.

Thanks,

Paul.
