On which device? Sky Glass Gen2 does not have an optical output. Sky Glass Air does.

What device are you trying to connect to the optical port on the Glass Air TV? A soundbar?

Ultimea sound system works fine on lg tv only brought last year

ARC will give you better sound than optical but if you want to use optical then check that there's light coming through the optical cable from the TV. Try different audio output settings on the Glass menu - try Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital+ if it's set to Auto.
