Sky Sports player not working

On Safari I keep getting an error has occured please refresh the player to try again.  Cache and cookiues have been cleared but still getting this eror

Have you tried removing then installing the player again. You could also use Sky Go to watch the live sporting content.

I watch via safari on my Mac using my VirginMedia log in credentials.  Its working via Chrome but the sound stutters a bit.  Always worked via Safari until today

Have you checked on the Virgin Media forums to see if there are known issues with it, if there isn't it might be alerting them on there to it.
