  • Status: Sworn protector of Queen Alicent and Lord Commander.

  • Traits: Noble, skilled in combat, principled.

  • Famous quote: "Many in the realm would gladly trade positions with you, princess."

  • Family: Born to the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven, sworn to never have children.

Having been selected by Rhaenyra Targaryen to be a trusted member of the Kingsguard, Criston’s unwavering loyalty to the crown was unmistakable. Chosen for his experience in battle and skills as a master swordsman, he was seen as someone who could be a worthy asset to the King.

Criston quickly became close to Rhaenyra, acting as her protector and advisor. Their relationship would progress to more than what would be deemed appropriate, with intimate moments shared, sparked by the Princess’ admiration for the Knight.

Criston Cole’s relationship with the young Rhaenyra would continue until her marriage to Laenor Velaryon caused tension between the two. This separation would go on to drive Criston to become loyal to Alicent Hightower after admitting his relations with Rhaenyra to the Queen.

Dance of the Dragons

After the death of King Viserys I, the small council would gather to discuss their conspiratorial plot to place Aegon Targaryen upon the Iron Throne. Ser Criston, as part of this group, held objections to Rhaenyra or Daemon obtaining the crown.

Due to their betrayal of what would have been the rise of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, Ser Criston’s loyalty to Alicent would need to continue into the pending war between the Green and Black houses, defending Alicent and her family in any conflict that would arise in the forthcoming.
