Addam Velaryon, born Addam of Hull, was a legitimized child born out-of-wedlock of Driftmark with dragonseed heritage. Alongside his younger brother, Alyn, Addam played a significant role during the tumultuous period known as the Dance of the Dragons. As a knight and heir to House Velaryon of Driftmark, Addam's legacy is marked by his dragon Seasmoke and his unwavering loyalty to his family and cause.

The origins of Addam Velaryon remain shrouded in mystery and are a topic of ongoing debate among historians. His mother, Marilda of Hull, claimed that both Addam and Alyn were fathered by Ser Laenor Velaryon. This claim was contentious, given Laenor's well-known preference for men, casting doubt on the legitimacy of Marilda's assertion. The court fool, Mushroom, offered an alternative theory, suggesting that the boys were in fact fathered by Laenor's father, Lord Corlys Velaryon. Mushroom's account posits that Corlys kept their paternity a secret to avoid the wrath of his wife, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, known for her fiery temper.

Rise to Knighthood

At the tender age of fifteen, Addam found himself at the center of one of the most significant conflicts in Westerosi history—the Dance of the Dragons. The civil war, fought between the factions supporting Rhaenyra Targaryen and those backing Aegon II Targaryen, saw many dragonseeds, or individuals with Targaryen blood, rise to prominence. 

Addam's most significant contribution to the war effort was his bond with the dragon Seasmoke. His dragon was previously ridden by Laenor Velaryon, further complicating the debate surrounding Addam's parentage.
