Occupation: Legitimized Knight of Westeros
Traits: Brave, loyal, a strong sense of honour
Family: Marilda of Hull, rumoured bastard of Ser Laenor Velaryon or Lord Corlys Velaryon, though never confirmed.
Alyn of Hull, later known as Alyn Velaryon, is a captivating figure in the lore of Westeros, whose journey from a lowborn bastard to a legitimized knight of House Velaryon is marked by courage, loyalty, and ambition. Born amidst the tumult of the Dance of the Dragons, Alyn’s story is one of resilience and determination, as he navigates the treacherous waters of politics, war, and family legacy.
Early Life and Background
Alyn was born to Marilda of Hull, a woman of common birth, in the port town of Hull on the island of Driftmark. Alyn and his older brother, Addam, were rumored to be the sons of Ser Laenor Velaryon, though some speculated that their true father might have been Laenor's father, Lord Corlys Velaryon. Despite the uncertainty surrounding their parentage, the boys were acknowledged by Lord Corlys, who saw potential in them and brought them to Driftmark.
Growing up, Alyn and Addam were raised as dragonseeds, bastards with potential dragon-riding abilities due to their alleged Velaryon blood. This heritage would play a significant role in shaping Alyn's destiny, especially during the Dance of the Dragons, a civil war that pitted Targaryen against Targaryen for control of the Iron Throne.
Alyn of Hull was known for his bravery, loyalty, and a fierce sense of honor. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Alyn’s courage was not born out of a desire for glory but from a deep-seated sense of duty to his family and those he served. He was a skilled sailor and fighter, having learned the ways of the sea from a young age, which made him an invaluable asset during the war.
The Dance of the Dragons
The Dance of the Dragons was a pivotal period in Alyn’s life. As the war erupted, Alyn and his brother Addam were thrust into the center of the conflict. Addam, who was a dragonrider, became the rider of Seasmoke, a dragon previously ridden by Ser Laenor Velaryon. This connection to a dragon lent credibility to their Velaryon heritage and bolstered their status among the Blacks, the faction supporting Rhaenyra Targaryen’s claim to the throne.
Who plays Alyn of Hull?
Alyn of Hull is portrayed by Abubakar Salim, known for his roles in Assassin's Creed: Origins, Raised By Wolves and Informers.
