Outlook on my Windows 10 PC failed some time ago sending and receiving email on my account.
My Android outlook still works.
The imap server keeps rejecting my password imap.tools.sky.com or the yahoo servers. I tried Windows Mail and now that has failed. I installed Thunderbird but get the same consistant problem imap server rejection, yet accessing my account via the web is straightforward and without complication. Also tried generated password still not working.
Getting fed up with this now after 20 years might need to change my email and go to another provider yahoo is not working now on my PC
It used to be so simple using pop mail.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreWhen you generated the 16 digit password did you then use it to replace the password in those programs and apps as it should work.

There is no reason why you should not still be using POP.
I do, because it is the only way to have multiple email addresses using the same email inbox on Outlook.
Outlook on PC will require a generated password irrespective of whether you use POP or IMAP.
If you access your email from various different devices, POP can be problematical so IMAP is the way to go.
Thunderbird will not require a generated password, it is OAuth compatible so will work with your email address and password, no problem.
Mail on Windows 10/11 is also OAuth compatible so should work O.K.
If you can give us a bit more info on your problem, we can probably give advice.

I think it might be my laptop setup windows mail on my desktop and it appears to be working something in Windows has changed and its not letting me setup my Gmail or sky email. The imap server keeps saying incorrect password whether I use a generated one or normal one.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreDo you have more than one Sky email address as you need to be logged into the generated webpage with the correct account to match the email account you are trying to setup.

My sky email is now working in windows mail on Windows 11 but still cannot get it to work in outlook 365 using imap or pop. I have always preferred outlook but it now seems to have real problems running my mail.

So what happens after you have generated a 16 digit password it:

Just make sure you are logged in with the same account details that match the email account in Outlook.

Nothing happens even if i generate a password yet when i check my mail via the web it has created a test email which is rather strange.

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreTo be clear you generate the 16 digit password and you then copy it to Outlook to replace the password you have in that as it is not clear if you are doing this or not ?
