Pop Mail Not Working

Hi, my Pop3 mail has stopped working from yesterday morning.

 

I have three Sky email accounts that I pull into an old email client on my PC and I'm now getting errors. I can still access them by logging into Sky and checking yahoo mail and they are also coming in to my phone through IMAP.

 

I tried the old Ping pop.tools.sky.com and it couldn't find the server, but Ping imap.tools.sky.com connected fine.

 

Have Sky now switched off Pop3 mail, or have the settings been changed? Anyone know?

Don't worry about the ping timing out, it does for me too, but POP still works fine.

You are both using very old Microsoft clients, I wonder if that has something to do with it.

I still use Outlook 2003 and that still works, you could give OE Classic a try, it's designed to be very similar.

There have been similar reports with the imap setting then week so see if the Yahoo one will work:

 

Incoming Mail (POP) Server

Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com
Port - 995
Requires SSL - Yes

Thanks for the quick reply, Caesarome.

 

Yes, I saw the problems people were having with imap and to change the settings to yahoo, but it didn't work for me. I also tried generating new passwords, but still nothing. 

 

Maybe nobody uses Pop3 anymore and they've switched off the servers?

 

Hopefully someone will have some information about it.

Yes - no they haven't. I still use POP for Sky using a generated password, and Sky's POP settings.

I'll maybe try a different mail client on my PC and see if Pop works on that.

As @Mark39 says POP still works as I use it all the time.

What app were you using?

Erm, I'm embarrassed to say... Outlook Express 6!! 😳

 

It's a great mail app...or it was until yesterday. 😀

My pop3 email also stopped working this week (Windows Live Mail on PC), no emails received since Tuesday.

 

Have tried pinging pop.tools.sky.com and it says request timed out.

 

Ping imap.tools.sky.com works fine for me as well.

It's good to know it's not just me then.

 

The last message I received via Pop on all three accounts was also on Tuesday.

 

Hopefully Sky will switch back on whatever they switched off. Is there any point on calling Sky technical support?

Yes, tried it without success, also tried changing 995 to 993, which makes it think about it for longer, but still not working.

 

I tried generating new passwords, creating new accounts etc, but nothing changing. 

 

I've just looked up Yahoo help, but not found anything yet - still searching for a solution though if anyone can help? 🤞

POP still working,fine for me using Sky's server rather than Yahoo's on Office, so I doubt anything at Sky's end has been changed or turned off.,@PaulABZ @Armadillo1969 are you using a Sky app password?

 

@PaulABZ portc993 is,used with IMAP. It's 995 for POP.

Thanks for that link, jayach.

 

Downloaded OE Classic and added the email accounts and the emails from the last few days all downloaded.

 

It means that there is a problem with my old Outlook Express 6 software and not a problem with accessing Pop mail.
