Directed to New password.

I tried to log into my sky email but got a message giving me a New password to use. Is this legitimate or a con. 

I am guessing in order to do this a hacker would have had to bypass sky's security

Are you logging in here: https://www.sky.com/signin/email ?

 

Do you mean the message contains a new password? Never heard of that before. Or do you mean your login using your usual password is rejected?

Do you mean you are being asked to set up two step authentication rather than an actual new password, if so that screen will come up if you haven't got this set up. You don't have to set it up if you don't want as you should be able to dismiss it and continue to your account.

I can't remember the exact wording  but it refers to maintaining security or words to that effect.

 

 It asks that to click a box to display the password and directs that the password provided is copied. 

 I can then open my email without doing anything else. 

My normal password works fine after that.

 

What gets me is that it only happens occasionally and only after I have entered my sky password.

 

If it happens again I will screenshot it.

It is bizzare.

But I cant see that it is coming from anywhere other than sky.

I wonder if it's a captcha - you're presented with a partially obscured series of letters and/or numbers and asked to key them in? It's designed to prevent a non-human from trying to gain access to your account.

 

If it is, it's an added security feature, usually temporary and will probably go away after a while.
