Constantly Email Logging Into Email

On my Windows 11 computer, iPad and iPhone which all use Outlook 365 I am constantly being requested to log into my Sky (Yahoo) email account. This started on Tuesday 3rd March. If I click on Help on the Yahoo site it comes up in Chinese characters. Has anyone had this problem

@Neil+Grayson how are these log in requests being made? Are you able to log in ok?

Opening Outlook takes me to the Yahoo log in page. I log in get a code from Sky, enter it and my emails work. Next time I open Outlook it is asking me to log in again. Gmail accounts in Outlook work fine. The same happens on my iPhone and iPad.

I suspect the code you are being given is a generated password, is it 16 digits?

That generated password should be being saved in Outlook, next time you enter one look to see if there is a box you can tick to say save it. If not try entering it by hand in the password settings for Outlook.

Are you recording the codes you are given, as if they are generated passwords, there is a limit to how many you can have.

No, the code I am being given is a 6 digit numerical code which expires within 10 minutes. It is sent by text message to my mobile phone.

Then that sounds like the standard 2FA verification code, although why that would be requested when loading Outlook I can't understand.

You say you are using Outlook 365, are you possibly using "New" Outlook and not "Classic" Outlook?

What version of Outlook do I have? - Microsoft Support

 

If you are using 2FA, try turning it off and see if the prompts stops.

It is the 2FA verification code. On opening Outlook a web page is opened showing Google and asks me to log in. It is the New Outlook. Currently I seem to be logged in on all devices and it has stopped asking me to log in. Whether this is only temporary I don't know. I will turn off 2FA if it starts happening again as you suggest.

I have had the same problem for about a week (~22April 2026). Every attempt to open Outlook 365 on all of my Windows 11 PCs requires a sky login  ( and sometimes 2FV) - even if its the same day!. I have gone through sky help and tried changing my sky password and clearing the outlook cache, but nothing seems to work ( I have tried to disable 2FV, but can't find an option to do this - I'm not convinced that is the problem).  I have used Outlook without any issues for many years, but all of a sudden it won't remember my sky login details.   As anyone else experienced this or have any ideas?

You say you are using Outlook 365, but are you possibly using New Outlook, Microsoft do try to push users to that.

What version of Outlook do I have? - Microsoft Support

 

As long as you are receiving the verification codes, you should be able to turn 2FA off using the link I posted previously.

I switched off 2FA and everything works OK now. Yes, it was the new Outlook. I haven't had any problems now for a number of weeks.

Switching off 2FA hasn't fixed this issue ( it worked for one day , then the next I'm back to logging in everytime I open Outlook 365 ( "new outlook").  As it happens on all my Windows PCs and started at the same time, I would think its possibly related to my account. I would appreciate any more ideas as I'm not sure where I can go with this.

Firstly New Outlook is not part of Microsoft 365, it is available to all Windows 10/11 users.

 

When you say you are "logging in everytime I open Outlook", do you mean you need to provide your email address and password?

Thanks for the response Jayach - I didn't really appreciate the different Outlook versions.

 

What hapens is ...

 

1. I click on the outlook icon and a webpage opens - "log in - sign into yahoo"

2. This contains my email address and "stay signed in" tick box which is already set. I press "next " to continue

3. This opens a sky sign-in page and requires my sky password. Another "keep me signed in" tick box is set here. I complete the password and press continue. (*when I had 2FV it inserted that as well somewhere around this step if I recall, but I have now disabled that)

4. This opens another page - with my sky username and the text "by agreeing to this you'll sign in to Microsoft Outlook with your Yahoo account and allow Mcrosoft Outlook to access...Yahoo contacts, Yahoo Calender, Profile and Yahoo Mail".  I click on the agree box  which allows me to select the agree button. 

5 On pressing agree Outlook opens, but with a box that states "you need to sign in, select Continue to sign in".

6. I do so and the "login -sign into yahoo" web page  reopens again and I click to agree terms again ( repeat of step 2)

7 Outlook opens and takes a few seconds to open my account.  I can now fully access my sky emails ( at last!)

 

This happens almost all of the time I open outlook after switching on the PC. I say most of the time as just going through these steps to write this I didn't need to after rebooting my laptop. But it did work once or twice after disabling 2FV and then went back to the above., so I'm not confident its reliable.  I will monitor over the next day or so, but hopefully the above description might give you some clues. Happy to answer any follow up questions.

Thanks for the very detailed reply, unfortunately i can't tell you exactly what is causing it, but I will give you a few of my thoughts.

 

New Outlook is not a normal email client/app, it is a PWA (Progressive Web App), which is basically a web page running as a stand alone app.

As such it doesn't use email protocols but web security techniques. (It uses code from the Edge browser)

From what you are experiencing. it seems to sometimes forget everything about your account so it seems to start again.

 

Now, if a browser did that, I would suspect cookie problems, but I'm not sure if New Outlook uses them in the same way.

 

So, a few more questions:

Have you got only one Sky email account, and do you have an actual Yahoo account?

Are you using just your Sky account in New Outlook?

Have you considered using Classic Outlook instead? (or possibly as well as)

Do you use the Edge Browser, and possibly have cookies turned off in it?

For reasons unknown Outlook appears to be working OK, (for the last few days) so as mysteriously as it stopped working it has now started. I'm relunctant to fiddle with anything that isn't broken. Many thanks for your support.
