2 factor authentication sending code to email address

My wife has been trying to access her email account only for the 2 step authentication coming up saying' enter the 6 digit code that has been sent to 'your email address''.  The problem is the email address that the code is being sent to is, is the email she is trying to sign into.  The authentication has been working fine (sending code to mobile) until yesterday.  Ideas anyone.  Thanks.

@JM109 as you rightly posted, Verification Codes for Sky Yahoo Mail are sent by SMS to your mobile, not via email. I suspect your wife is trying to log in to sky.com. I'd suggest your wife tries logging in directly here: www.sky.com/signin/email

@JM109

The verification text should be sent to the mobile number displayed on screen when she is trying to login to her account so is her mobile receiving the text, if not look in the spam folder of the messaging app on the phone.

Re: 2 factor authentication sending code to email address

Hi Mark39,

Thanks for the quick reply.

She has just tried using your link.  It is coming up 'sign in to sky.com'.  She doesn't seem to be able to get the sky email sign in screen.  Any more ideas or fixes would be gratefully received as she is beginning to do my head in.  (I hope its allowed to critisize ones wife)

Re: 2 factor authentication sending code to email address

Hi caesarome,

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately on the authentication screen it is showing an email address.  As Mark39 pointed out this is thesign in screen for sky.com not sky email.  We have tried links and sites we have saved on the computer, but it is impossible to get the email sign in screen.

Many thanks

@JM109

Does this slightly different email link work:

https://skyid.sky.com/signin/email/

@JM109 😁😁 She could try logging in using the browser's Incognito/Privacy mode, in case it's cookie related - or clearing the browser cache (cookies, history etc).. Or using a different browser.

If none of that works, I'd have to assume it's Sky's 'system' requiring a log in to Sky first. Alternatively there might  be an option to 'log in a different way' on the sky.com login page.

If everything fails, she'll have to give Sky a call, I'm afraid.

Re: 2 factor authentication sending code to email address

Thanks Mark39,

Tried clearing all browser data, cookies etc.  She is not in private browser.  All links seem to lead to sign in to sky.com.  Will be calling sky.

Once again many thanks for your replies, it is truly appreciated.

Yes, that link does say 'sign in to sky.com' .

But once she answers the username and password questions it should then send the email verification code to her mobile.

Hi Jayach.

Thanks for the reply.

No it comes up with  '6 digit authentication code has been sent to 'email address''.

Don;t know why.

Regards.

Realistically I think the only thing she can do is to ring Sky, not the most pleasant option, unless she can get an agent who understands the problem. Do let us know how she gets on.

2-factor authentication - not receiving codes to my mobile (and wasn't given a recovery code)

Just spent an hour and a half on phone to Sky. Nice woman, who did everything she could to help, so absolutely no issue with her, but still not fixed. She was just as frustrated with it as me.

Since Thursday, every time I try to log in on the PC, it asks for a 6 digit code. The mobile number it is sending it to appears to be correct from the numbers that are shown, except the text never arrives.

I have checked the Spam queue on my Messages app and other texts are arriving.

I never set up 2-step verification and I was unaware it was becoming mandatory since last Thursday. I clicked the Maybe Later option because I wasn't fussed by it.

The Sky agent managed to update my phone number and my recovery email address on my account but we still couldn't get the code to access the email account. We tried both through Sky and Yahoo's homepages.

And because I never set up 2-step verification in the first place, I wasn't given a Recovery Code. If you're going to make something mandatory, you do need to warn people first.

Yahoo Live Chat is useless and everyone appears to be at a loss as to how they fix it. I have been warned I could lose the email address entirely with no compensation.

I use this email account for business and I can't invoice people properly right now, so it is costing me money.

It is not acceptable this has been done as it will affect my business.

It will also mean changing my email address on all my utility services, which will be a pain because that requires verification...and that will be sent to my Sky email address which I can't access.

I know I can't be the only one who is in this boat. Any suggestions welcome, anyone having the same issues?

Re: 2 factor authentication sending code to email address

Hi Mark39

Thought I'd give you an update.

My wife couldn't face phoning sky so she kept trying different things.

Finally after she'd entered her email address and the password screen came up she tried the 'change user name or email'.  She then entered her email address again, entered her password and up came the screen saying 6 digit code sent to mobile number.  she then used her recovery code, re-entered the 2fa mobile number and she hasn't had a problem.

Best regards
