1000 apologies if been asked, I've not seen a solution

Hello everyone. I've recently bought a new PC, bought, installed and activated MS Office 2024 and went off to populate Outlook with my sky email account as I'd done a hundred times for  friends and family with theirs when they got new hardware over the years.

In the good old days when setting up my sky accounton Outlook, knowing that the correct username, password, security settings, port settings, etc. had all been entered, i knew i was going to get a failure connection, and that was ok because i knew Outlook was after an app generated password which once obtained from Sky and entered into Outlook, saw all my emails flooding into my Inbox. Great.

However, heading off to the link I've used to do this previously, i can see Sky no longer provide app generated passwords, with no advice to an old fart like me on what i need to do instead to get Outlook to accept my sky mail login details.

What I am hoping to learn from this post is to understand how i get Outlook to accept my new account set up without an app generated password.

Thanks 👍

So far as I'm aware, you can't as the Outlook client isn't OAuth2 compliant. You might need to use an email app. Mozilla Thunderbird is somewhat similar to Outlook and doesn't require an app password, providing you select OAuth2 authentication.

Sky have disabled the app password generator for security reasons.

As @Mark39 says Classic Outlook (the one that come with Office) will only work with a generated password.

An alternative is New outlook, which is available free with all Windows 10 and 11 PC's, it's isn't the same as Classic Outlook, but will do the job.

However if you still have your old PC with Outlook working, you could recover the generated password from that, there is no suggestion a previously generated passwords will stop working..

If you do get the password, keep it safe, in case you need it again.
