Introducing trans & nonbinary prefixes

Here at Sky, it’s important that our customers, just like our people, can be themselves. This includes having systems that identify them the way they identify themselves.

We want to do more for our trans or nonbinary customers by ensuring our systems are inclusive of all identities. While the Mx prefix has been an option available for a number of years, we are excited to announce that we have added 3 more prefixes that you can choose from: Ind, Misc, and Pr.

From 14 April, these options will be available on our systems for those of you who have specific gendered requirements, alongside the usual prefixes of Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr etc.

Here's a breakdown of what the trans & nonbinary prefixes mean and why they're so important for inclusivity:

Mx - the gender-neutral Mx is used as a title for those who don’t identify as being of a particular gender. It is often used by trans and non-binary people and is now recognised by the Oxford English Dictionary.

Ind - Ind is short for “Individual” and similar to Mx, it’s for those who want to be entirely free of gender. This title may be more appropriate for those who don’t feel Mx meets their standards as Mx can imply “mixed gender”. It is commonly used by agender people.

Misc - This pronoun refers to people who have aspects of different genders at different times. It is commonly used by non-binary and bigender people.

Pr - Short for ‘Person’ and completely genderless, this pronoun is for those who don’t want to attach any gendered pronoun to themselves.
