slow broadband

Broadband is only topping out at around 70-80mbps but i am guaranteed way more than this. The sky app says that i am getting over 120mbps to the router but every other app/website that i use to test this measures around the 70-80mbps mark. This is not a reliable test

@chirosteve The guarantee only applies to the speed at the router, it doesn't apply to speeds from the router to your device.

The test Sky run shows the line speed to your router, independent tests show the throughout to your device and that will always be slower, there is no way around that and via wireless it can be significantly lower.

Re: slow broadband

So basically the advertised speed is never going to be what you actually get to your devices. This must surely be an issue for advertising standards

@chirosteve Advertising standards would only be interested if any advertising media stated the speed is to your device, as it doesn't no ISP is doing anything wrong, it would be impossible for any ISP to offer the full speed of a line to any device that connects to the router,  there are to many variables to do so not to mention it would mean circumventing the laws of physics.

If you use a wired connection to a device and run a speedtest you should be able to get the speed Sky say you are getting, within a tolerance of 10%.

Re: slow broadband

Thanks. Already doing that though. My Mac is wired straight into the router. Right next to it using a very good Ethernet cable.

Which broadband product are you actually on?  120Mbs would be a rather odd result for anything but Ultrafast 1 over G.fast

Sky Glass 55" (on ethernet) & two Stream Pucks (one ethernet / one WiFi)
BT Halo 3+ Ultrafast FTTP (500Mbs), BT Smart Hub 2
