sky is getting too expensive
I am now paying over £50 for sky broadband, I still can't get sky fibre although I could get virgin or Truspeed, all are cheaper but sky seems to be deaf to this. I've been a skyer since the very start and I mean the very start even before there records start and it's hard to let go. Anyone have any good recomendations as to who is reliable and not increase prices constantly as Sky does?

Sky, like most ISPs, uses the national Openreach copper and optical networks. It's immaterial what Virgin provides over its private coaxial cable or an altnet (startup FTTP-installing company) such as Truspeed can offer: Sky and other Openreach-based ISPs have no access to that infrastructure.
All mainstream ISPs increase pricing annually because that's how their own wholesale rental and other costs increase.

Re: sky is getting too expensive
@chuffs I think you may be exagerating with the prices increasing constantly. Sky only increase their prices when a discount ends or the Annual price rise in April. All other providers do the very same thing,.
As for Broadband speeds Sky can only provide what is available via your line.
Virgin & Truspeed use their own networks and are Altnets. Sky use the Openreach network.
This link will tell you what speeds you can expect on the Openreach network, any ISP who uses this network will only be able to offer what can be supported. https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL/AddressHome

You have 2 options, move to another provider or call Sky and negotiate a new 18 month deal.

As I said they are Deaf that's why I asked for thoughts on alternatives. I was offered a few pounds off but nowhere near what others are offering

Then change providers, that would be your only option, go to a provider who will offer a service at a price you feel is fair.
I'm not sure what else we can advise.

ISPs can choose to make an initial offer at cost (or even lose money over an initial term) if they want to, knowing a percentage of users signed up that way will then remain on a more expensive (i.e. profit-making) rate afterwards.

I have now moved broadband provider, and I couldn't be happier. I am now paying half what I was and with no increases over the next 2 years. i will now cancell my Shy sub completely. I dont do this lightly as I had a sat sub since the mid 1980's my first box was a measely 4 channel. Bye all
