bad ping ea fc

Hi, I'm having a routing/latency issue specifically when connecting to EA SPORTS FC 27.

My PC is connected by Ethernet. My normal internet latency is very good: I get around 8 ms average to 1.1.1.1 with 0% packet loss.

However, EA's Connection Quality Report shows:
• Connection Score: 75
• Ping: 64.96 ms
• Jitter: 4.47 ms
• Packet loss: 0.05%

FC 27 consistently gives me around 60–80 ms ping before and during matches.

I also ran a traceroute to an EA endpoint. The route is around 4–7 ms through the initial Sky hops, then jumps to around 84 ms when it reaches the Zayo network in London and subsequently routes through the US.

This only happens with FC/EA. Other games have good ping, and I previously got around 10 ms on FC when playing on Xbox using the same Sky connection. I also once got around 10 ms on FC on this PC, but it has been around 60–80 ms ever since.

Could you please check whether there is a routing/peering issue between my Sky connection and EA's game servers/data centres, rather than just checking my general broadband speed?

@louie2345678 you are not speaking to Sky when posting in this forum but even if you were customer services would be unable to action your request. Response times on US based servers will vary and are not something Sky will ever guarantee in practice. If you want that level of support you are with the wrong ISP.

Given the amount of traffic for the new release are you 100% sure the issue is down to Sky notEA whose track record on new releases is far from great?

Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

Hello,

For around 6 months, there have been issues with people who play EA FC with Sky broadband. The issue is the game constantly freezes, meaning you have to restart the game, only for it to freeze again, and again, and again.

So the new FC27 is out now, and we are having the exact same issues, but its even worse now. A £100 game is game is unplayable.

The EA community managers are saying its a Sky Broadband issue and not an EA issue.

Is anyone else having the same problems? There are many on the EA forums complaining about it but Sky make out like they don't know about the issue and EA just blame Sky.

NOTE: Other games on other network providers are having no issues, its just Sky Broadbans users.

And advice?

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

Exactly the same issue here, thrown out of matches and menus constantly freezing requiring a game restart. Whatever the problem is it's a momentary block on communication between the game and the network that no other game suffers from.

If other games are having no issues, what makes you think it is a Sky issue and not a problem with the game itself?

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

Because it's only impacting Sky broadband users, there are many threads on it in the EA forums. The game works fine for all other ISP.

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

@Boeyjee Have you spoken to Sky about it? It started in the last 5 or so months of FC26, thought it would be fixed by FC27 but its worse. Seems the only solution is to stop playing or change ISP, but then, I imagine that will end up causing issues with Sky Q and the multiple mini boxes.

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

It's not, but i've read a lot of stories about Sky Q and mini boxes having issues with other ISP if working off wi fi. If it was just me, I'd change service providers.

Funny you say that mate because I've switched ISPs this evening after it got even worse. Hopefully a few vote with their feet and it gets sorted.

If you have a VPN, try setting it to London and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

This isn't the first time this has happened with a particular ISP.

a similar problem occurred in 2012 with Fifa 12 and Virgin Broadband, where only people with that ISP disconnected at the end of their games, it was only addressed after a watchdog got involved.

It was found to be due to the particular virgin router.

Not assuming this is the same situation again, but not the first of its kind either, I'm also having the exact same issue, and no issues anywhere else, broadband flawless otherwise.

@Boeyjee Who did you switch to? I'm looking at EE but reading that it doesn't always work well with Sky Q. Could just be for a rare few though.

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

@Sollicitus Good to know. The EA community managers are being very quite on the EA forums, people are really getting annoyed. What's your plan? Switch ISP or just hope it improves somewhere down the line?

Re: Conflict between EA FC27 and Sky Broadband

Will hold out for the first patch, if not I have 2 months left on my contract and was leaving anyway due to the price hikes, which is a shame as the broadband has been great otherwise
