The line comes in via a standard phone line so I assume it's FTTC, 150mbps download.

150Mbs over copper would be G.fast rather than regular FTTC (which tops out at 80Mbs)

Technically that makes it an 'Ultrafast 1' connection.

Re: Xbox Microsoft Rewards asking to update console location, cannot access but works on mobile data

I managed to get the internet off for two hours this morning 🙂

Surprisingly still have the same IP address. Does anyone know how long it has to be off before getting a new IP or can Sky force disconnect from their end?

To confirm I am on a gfast connection

Many Thanks

@BaconUK

We've always understood that Sky assign FTTC public IP addresses with a one hour lease life, so renewal should be after 30 minutes: that's why the standard advice is to have the Hub off for half an hour.

I think it's quite possible that G.fast and FTTP is 'stickier', and IPv6 addresses shouldn't need any such restriction anyway as there are rather more than enough of those to go round ; )

@TimmyBGood & @BaconUK my Sky FTTP connection did not change IP address even after 2+ hours down when I last tried it. Not sure if Sky can push a change from their end but it coukd be worth asking.

Re: Xbox Microsoft Rewards asking to update console location, cannot access but works on mobile data

@Chrisee @TimmyBGood @ryane Hi All! I've been doing some more testing 🙂

Tried an overnight restart of the router and still have the same IP address, so IP's seem to be a lot more stickier now!

Past two days I've been testing a VPN using the free Google VPN  supplied with Google One with some interesting results. The VPN does not allow to change country but does default to UK here which is what I want anyway 🙂

When using the VPN on mobile, everything works great, I can now access Xbox rewards perfectly. Microsoft rewards is my go-to test as it seems very sensitive to region issues.

On PC I can access rewards and claim rewards as expected. Microsofts Xcloud (cloud gaming) however says region unsupported. My guess is they have locked it down if it detects a VPN as it's only available in certain regions? So mostly works on PC. With VPN off none of the above works at all, it thinks Im in the wrong region (Italy).

Finally I cannot test on the Xbox consoles as cant install VPN or add VPN to the Sky router. I will call Sky when I have time and see if forcing an IP change is an option. Hopefully if the IP's are more stickier now an IP update from Sky will stick around a lot longer!

Thanks again , Ill update again once I've contacted Sky 🙂
