Wifi connection poor

My wifi connection on the app is showing red but when I click on it it shows green. Sky says I have 32mb live but I only have 16 when I run a test. The connection seems erratic and not strong. My hardware is very old. Can I get new hardware or is there access to a new wifi hardware that would improve the service I am getting so that I can receive what I am paying for.? Thanks
