When to cancel without incurring fees

I have sky broadband, the deal ends on 13th sept '26 but my last payment to them is 22nd aug '26. I've already had an email from sky saying they'll move me to a rolling contract from 13th sept. I have spoken to sky in an attempt to negotiate a new deal but they weren't very forthcoming to be honest so I'm looking at switching. When would I be able to switch without incurring any fees. The chap on the phone from sky said I couldn't cancel per se, but if/when i took out a new provider they would cancel sky

@Darnlane

If you leave or cancel then your last bill would be the 22nd September as billing continues as normal during the cancellation period so even if you did switch or cancel on or around the 13th September the next bill would have been created around 14 days earlier. After you have left any overpayment will appear on the account as a credit to be refunded to you.

Don't cancel as that can leave you without any broadband for a period, use the OTS service and the other supplier will handle everything. It usually takes around a fortnight anyway so you won't be charged more than what you're due to Sky regardless for the contract (the end of August should be fine).

Don't cancel the direct debit details however, there may be a refund due to you once the billing has caught up, just sort that after everything has gone through if needed. There is an semi-automated system in place but it does take a few weeks, but the DD details have to be in place for that to work correctly. Otherwise you'll be sitting on the phone for a while.
