I am paying £5 a month for Sky broadband boost. Is it a box like a wifi extender? If it is ive never had one. Do they work? Tried to contact sky with no luck.

The option to claim one or more wireless booster units under the terms of the WiFi Guarantee is part of the Broadband Boost subscription supplement, but no such hardware is despatched by default.
