I'm very pleased with the service provided by sky. Had a very helpful broadband engineer from sky come out and he fixed the fault. He did a DLM reset and happily the speeds improved from what they were before. DLM at the moment have given me these stats, I wonder if it will see any more room for improvement

Normally dlm reset will bring the downstream noise margin down to 6db before g,inp brings it down to 3db. Yours is already down to 5db'ish so looks like its already going down towards 3db via g,inp (impulse noise protection) so you may see further improvement in speed

Sounds good, how much could be gained as I was told the maximum with the three attenuation bands is 60 meg. Strangely out carbinet is only around 5 or so minutes walk so wondering why the higher attenuation, our exchange is very close as well hence the 17 or so db line attenuation and the cabinet is around where the exchange is, maybe the line goes all the way round to get to the cabinet maybe hence the higher attenuation or more users on it. Am very happy though as bt wholesale estimates 51 is the max on a clean line and am getting more then that which is brilliant.

Find out moreBroadband lines dont always run as the crow flies so a 5min walk to your cabinet could be double the distance for your broadband line depending on the route it takes. Additionally as the cabinet fills up more crosstalk occurs which means the noise margin has to be raised to maintain a stable line which would result in a lower overall attainable speed.

Ok, how much do you reacon it could improve by, is the most it could get 60, or could dlm work magic and somehow produce more??

oh ok, so even if the exchange and the cabinet are very close to my house, the line could be longer and go round the whole estate to get there?? 60-65 sounds brilliant, fingers crossed, also I noticed I am on version 2.01 of the firmware for the sky hub, when will I get the 3.01 version

Sky Broadband hub my version is 0201 it says 0301 is the latest version

Is it also normal for speed loss on wifi even when sitting next to the router, how much speed loss is normal on wifi

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreFirmware is sent out to routers in batches by Sky so your hub may not always reflect the latest published versions. If you are on 7.02.0201.R then you should receive update 7.02.0301.R within a month or so.
As for your WiFi speed, there is no normal speed loss figure. It completely depends on your homes environment, local conditions, amount of devices, type of device etc.

If you are getting high speed on the wifi but not the full speed that comes in from the router when you are right next to the router does that suggest the router is working perfectly and the Wi-Fi
