Using a third party router with Sky Q
Hello
I am looking to use a third party router for my Sky Fibre. I can set it up without any problems but I was wondering what negatives will this have with my Sky Q setup.
Will this cause a problem with the Sky mini boxes and mesh setup? My main box is wired.
thanks

Re: Using a third party router with Sky Q
Sky q ideally requires both a connection to the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi bands . With a 3rd party router it only connects vid 2.4ghz which may lead to erratic wifi behaviour due to possible intererence from other networks and to some household appliances

Re: Using a third party router with Sky Q
Thanks for the reply.
it would be a Draytek with the option of 5ghz - would this then in theory mean I won't have any issues?

Re: Using a third party router with Sky Q
The main box and the minis will still only connect to the 2.4ghz wifi. You could use a wifi analyzer such as Analiti etc to find out how many other network ssids are going to possibly affect yours

Re: Using a third party router with Sky Q
Or if you plan to use a mesh system you could place,a mesh node near each of your sky q minis and ethernet the minis to the mesh node
In that way the minis will think they are running on an ethernet straight to the router

Thanks, that might be my only option or leave it as it is for now.
