Using a Deco Mesh (PX50) as the router instead of the Sky Fibre Router

Hi,

I have Sky Full Fibre 500 and a Sky Max Hub.

I also have a Deco mesh PX50 network which is connected to the Sky Hub - and working in Access Point mode.

I want to switch to using the Deco PX50 as the router and not use the Sky Hub at all  - to avoid two different Wifi networks.

I know I could potentially still continue to use the Sky Hub as the router and disable its Wifi - but that is then just using power unnecessarily.

According to the TP-link Deco FAQ it should be possible to use the Deco as the Router - but the instructions are confusing.

I did do something similar for my Community Fibre router - i.e use the Deco as the router and put the CF one away - that was pretty easy and straightforward.

Can someone please advise the detailed settings I would need to set/copy across from the Sky Hub to the Deco when I switch it to Router mode so that it can connect to Sky without the Sky Router?

Does anyone know how I can get the following question answered?

Does my local Openreach handover exchange natively support authentication via native DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation (PD) to provision both IPv6 and an IPv4 address? Or is this specific routing area still restricted to legacy IPv4 DHCP Option 61 (MER) authentication for third-party client equipment?

I don't think it's something you can find online, best way is trial and error. Some 20% of Sky connections use the option 61.

In reply to your first question, the same applies regarding trial and error, if not then I'd leave the Sky WiFi turned off and as it then runs very cool (and I suspect with very little power draw, around 5W apparently), stick it away out of sight (even in a cupboard), and continue using the Deco's in AP mode (which also run cooler than the Max hub with WiFi active).

So, I had a chance last night to test replacing the Sky Hub with a standard X50 in Router mode.

After a couple of restarts and ONT power cycles - it is working fine so far.

I enabled IPv6 and selected Dynamic IP as the connection type, ensured Prefix Delegation was Enabled after I changed the X50 from Access Point to Router mode.

To answer my own question, my local exchange does support authentication via native DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation.

One final point, I had to mess around with enabling Qos and Disabling to remove a 100Mbps limit that it had defaulted to for some odd reason - all good right now.
