I currently have a Talktalk router connected very simply to a BT phone outlet using a cable with I think RJ11 fittings either end. Can I simply swap routers if I go to Sky? I looked at the videos and got lost when they showed purple fittings that bear mo resemblance to what I have just now.
Thanks for any advive
Dave

FTTP is not available.
The exchange is not in a current fibre priority programme
As a WLR withdrawal exchange, product restrictions apply
SOADSL is not restricted at the exchange
For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (VDSL or G.fast) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.
For all SOADSL services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.
Actual speeds experienced by end users and quoted by CPs will be lower due to a number of factors within and external to BT's network, Communication Providers' networks and within customer premises.
In order to be eligible for handback, downstream speed should be less than Downstream Handback Threshold values.
If you decide to place an order for a WBC fibre product, an appointment may be required for an engineer to visit the end user's premises to supply the service
ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL availability: If shown at FTTP or SOGEA premises,ADSL, ADSL2+ and SOADSL are not available to order due to WLR Withdrawal stop sell rules. CPs should order FTTP or SOGEA. Copper products are only available by exception.

there was a message about HTML that shouldn't have been there. Don't know what it meant but I hope I've sent the right info.
Thanks again

Thats strange . Talk talk use openreach for fttc so the cables should be the same dsl rj11 to rj11 and phone cable is rj11 to bt phone jack

Strange??
I don't use the main incoming connection for the hub. It's a long house so the computer (connected to hub via ethernet) is a long way from the incoming connection. The phones (two) areconnected on a sort of ring mail and the Talk talk hub is on a spur arount 20 metres from the incoming phone line (overhead from the poles along the road)
All seems fine at present. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative to Talktalk. At the momement it's £37 for what they call Fibre 35, 38 Mb/sec which I think is a lot of money for a fairly slow connection by today's standards.

I am saying strange due to you saying the purple cables showing on sky bare no resemblance to the ones you are using
28 Nov 2024 03:08 PM
That could, of course be me looking at the videos. The connector going into the purple socket looked more bulky than the transparent ones on the long cable I'm using at the minute. It was a hunt on line that pointed me to the fact that they're called RJ11.

If there's a hole in the back of Sky hubs (not wi-fi) which takes the same connector as I have for the Talktalk one then I'm in business!!

The checker shows that FTTP isn't available to you, for for broadband just a straight swap of router & cable that comes with it.
But you will have to go to Internet telephoney, which means phone(s) connect to the back of the Hub rather than the BT style sockets.

More complication. Why would the phones need new connections just because I've changed the hub

Because as I said, you will have to move to Internet calls with Sky, or any other ISP you move to. The PSTN network is being shut down so everyone has to move to the new methos.

The cables remain the same. The way they are plugged in has changed ie plugged into the back of a router as opposed to a mastersocket

OK, phones. If we have to bin the landline that's no big deal - it's hardly used anyway so am I right in thinking that will save me the bother of running cables to get the phones to the hub.
