The signal drops I often pick up nearby signal from a local hospital- 200 yards away, before my own.

When Icone home my iPhone often doesn't connect. 
whilst using my iPad the signal drops and I am constantly having to reconnect. This has only happened over last couple of months.

That you are picking up a signal from much further away does tend to suggest the local wireless environment is heavily congested.
