Terrable WIFI

We've had sky broadband now since Aug last year, after it was installed we did not have wifi on occasions we did but at .5mb or up to 2mb. Sky sent an engineer around who put 3 pods in which improved the situation a bit, still not engough to run a computor and TV upstairs so we  bought some wifi exstenders that plug in the back of the hub and then go through the electrics which gave us broardband upstairs, this cot £75.00. We also pay for the pods which is £4.00 a month.

Now we come to the present, unless you are standing next to the hub you cannot make wifi phone call, down stairs tv has no connection wi fi is non exsistant, the same upstairs, all the pods have there lights on and flashing.

So far sky has sent us 1 new pod and replaced the hub, we have an engineer turning up later this week. We were previously with virgin had no problems, service was a lot faster, we've had to wait over 2 weeks for a vist, 5 weeks for install and paying extra for wifi that doesn't work.

Re: Terrable WIFI

Ok Update.

We now have wifi, still have to the TP link upstairs as we only get 60 mb up there, bownstairs we 450mb which is great. Sky engineer altered a security setting on the router, went round the house to find the best place for the pods, only 1 was put in a diferent place and took about 1/2 hour to get the pod's to talk to the hub. So for the first time since we joined sky we have wifi, so can we have a refund for the cos from August last year until now please ?

Nice job Josef the sky engineer.

@bobbuk it sounds like your home is not very WiFi friendly this is quite common in the UK especially as older homes have thick walls. The Sky Max system uses a 5GHz signal to communicate between the hub and the pods which has limited ability to pass through solid walls. Hopefully the Sky engineer can balance the system for you. However having mutiple WiFi systems in one property is not ideal as they can interfere.

In my own home I tried the Sky WiFi Max pods and concluded with the engineer that they were not suited to my property which has 3 level and some WiFi black spots due to a retaining wall. I reverted to using a 3 unit third party system that uses both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz band to communicate. This provides stable WiFi in every room while theoretically slower than the Sky set up it suits my home better with speeds between 500Mb/s in the main living area droping to 150Mb/s in the most distant room. I still use the Sky hub so keep the landline but dont use its WiFi at all. Overall Ihave saved money over oaying for WiFi Max.

Re: Terrable WIFI

House was built in 2006 so the walls are not that thick, good insulation through. Compared to my old house, in which we had virgin, that was built in the 70's it does have more or less same thickness inner walls and thiner outer walls. We will see what the guy from sky has to say and update you.

That's rather unlikely: I believe the 'Wifi Guarantee' is for a one month refund.

No harm in asking but you are probably right.
