Swapping the Sky Hub Max for a TP Link VR400

Hi all,

I have a Sky broadband 150 mbps FTTP with the Sky Wifi Max Router I have researched alot both on this forum and others on swapping it out for a 3rd party. I was given a TP Link VR400 from work and from my research it looks ike it should work however, iv tried a few times and been through the setup wizard andit doesnt seem to. Whats odd is there is an option to setup for SKY (MER) which I chose it, connects and I can connect to the internet but, my client seem to get a public IP rather than a private IP from the DHCP server on the router, also because the router has a 192 address and my client gets a public they are on different networks so I lose access to the router.

I have tried option other too and specified the vlan 101 but it doesnt explicity asks for option 61 so I dont know if this is just implied or what.

Has anyone had any experience of this? maybe im doing something wrong

Thanks

@dunny The MER option on that Router is effective only on the VDSL side i believe you will have to go check it out on the Tp-Link website or the Forum! There will be a specific way to set the VR400 up for wan operation on the Ethernet wan port! Also vlan is not required for fttp operation in the UK if that is your location! Not sure why you want to use such an old DSL router, there are far better Tp-Links available now!

Have looked back at your old posting where you got advice on what to do, did you follow any off that?

Re: Swapping the Sky Hub Max for a TP Link VR400

Hi Jim,

Thanks I'll check out the tp link site, dunno why I didn't think of that.

I am in the UK, I did read conflicting posts about the vlan so thought I'd try it.

Only reason is work were chucking them out and I had seen they could potentially work with sky so thought I'd try it.

I did follow the details on my last post but there was no mention of option 61 I assumed it was in the sky profile I selected in the wizard
