Sudden speed drop

Hi all,

I have an SR203 which usually syncs at 40000kbps down and 9999kbps up. My connection has been this for years.

Today the connection dropped altogether for 30 minutes and is now synced at 25457kbps down and 588kbps up. Very very slow. Unusable. Service checker says it's slower than normal but there's nothing we can do and speed may return to normal in 7 days.

The only next step from the checker is to come to this forum.

So does anyone here know how to get Sky to investigate and fix?

Thanks,

Martin

You can attempt to get them to do so, using the connection test on the website or in the My Sky app, or by phoning.

Unfortunately the 'Sky Speed Guarantee' is now only a 'guaranteed' no-penalty exit from a minimum contract term if the Guaranteed Minimum Download Speed cannot be restored: the one month subscription refund is no longer available.

Realistically ISPs no longer have any confidence that Openreach is putting time and resources into the legacy copper network.

That's presumably a reference to Dynamic Line Management on FTTC circuits, which is designed to step up speed gradually to establish what data rate the line can actually support before becoming unstable.

Re: Sudden speed drop

Thanks for your reply. That's useful info. Unfortunately we seem to live in a never-getting-fibre area.

But there is hope: I managed to call Sky and speak to someone who has booked an Openreach engineer for tomorrow morning. That seems like a result.

Thanks again.
