Social Tariff Price Increase
Evening all, I'm currently receiving the social tariff but have been informed of a price increase of £3.00. I've queried this with Sky whom are stating the price isn't fixed. I thought the tariff prices were frozen and exempt from any price increase. Has anyone else on the tariff been informed of a price increase? Thanks.

Re: Social Tariff Price Increase
I believe Sky Broadband Basics costs £20 a month for 24 months.
The broadband part of the social tariff lasts for 24 months and then reverts to the full cost but if you’re still eligible you will then need to re-apply.

Re: Social Tariff Price Increase
I'm currently within the 24 month contract until August paying the £20.00 tariff and still eligible, so I'm confused why Sky are stating it's not fixed at £20.00 and wanting to increase by £3.00

Re: Social Tariff Price Increase
I seem to recall the Social Tariff not being subject to the annual price increase but I may have imagined that 😂
I have asked the question in a SuperUsers closed forum and if I get any further information I will update your thread.

Re: Social Tariff Price Increase
That's what I've read too. This is from Sky's update on prices in Jan 26
'We are committed to keeping our customers connected and supporting those who need it most. For the past four years, and continuing this year, we’ve kept our social tariff prices frozen to help protect our most vulnerable customers and ensure they continue to access essential services.' Thank you for your response.

Perhaps note that providing a Social Tariff is voluntary on the part of an ISP, and they aren't obliged to lose money by doing so.
Having said that, I haven't seen any similar posts which suggests they may have got it wrong in your case.

I seems to depend on the provider. My mum is on a social tariff with Talk Talk and her price isn't going up next month.

Re: Social Tariff Price Increase
Update: Phoned Sky and they've stated there is no increase in the current social tariff price, the email I received may just be a generic email regarding a price increase. The Sky agents I spoke to online gave me incorrect information. Thanks to all who replied.

Staff have confirmed in the closed forum social tariff prices are unchanged again this year.
