Slow connection despite Full Fibre Gigafast

Hi there,

We recently moved back to Sky after 18 months with BT. Great deal on Full Fibre Gigafast, did all the tests etc beforehand to confirm we could get these speeds in our area.

We've only had it just over a week but ever since we moved over, it's been the slowest internet we've had in four years. Video calls lag within minutes, things buffer constantly, even things like comments on social media take forever to load.

All speed tests on the Sky checker say we're receiving the max speeds, and a guaranteed download speed of 600Mb/s. However, other speed tests online are showing we're getting max just over 400Mb/s.

What do we do about this?

@jmetcalf how are running the speedtests? If it is over WiFi you are likely just measuring the WiFi speed in your home which is not guaranteed as the layout of your home andwhat it is built out of determine WiFi speeds. In practice 400Mb/s is ample for tge vast majority of apps.

Buffering and video calls lagging sound to be related to WiFi issues as both require astable connection. However if you are getting 400Mb/s you should not have those issues for example Teams requires under 10Mb/s and even streaming something like Netflix require well under 50Mb/s. Many ex BT customers find they need to add Sky's WiFi Max bundle which can bring  an extender is required. Even after adding that you shoukd seexa saving on BT.  See https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-wifi-max

It is worth checking thecsetting for Sky's Briadband Shield as the lower age settings will affect social networking see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-broadband-shield-start
