Slow broadband speed
Hi,
I am currently on the Full Fibre Gigafast package, so should be getting close to 1gb connection.
This is not the case!
I have spoken with Sky technical numberous times, ran through the multiple steps to try and resolve the issue but still no good outcome.
The steps have been to disconnect EVERYTHING on the network (phones, tablet, TV's, laptops, consoles etc) and have just ONE device connected (my PC via Wifi, my laptop via Ethernet) at a time.
The PC usually gets 240Mbps over WiFi in the same room, opposite corner of the room and the laptop gets even worse when connected to the router via a Cat5e cable (tried multiple different cables).
Network adapter in the PC and the laptop is 1GB rated for network and I don't have a clue what to do next apart from potentially get a new router (which I should'nt have to do - its the flat black type with the lights on the front bottom of the hub).

Re: Slow broadband speed
Please post the following screenshots:
- A test taken on speedtest.net using an ethernet connected device, connected directly to the router, not through any switches, extenders, wall ports etc.
- A screenshot of the ethernet status of your laptop showing the port speed

Re: Slow broadband speed
Hi James,
Please see below;

From the PC over Wifi
This is from the PC on Ethernet - surprisingly it has gone up a little!
The Ethernet adapter on the laptop says 100mpbs (but the controller on the laptop model goes UP TO 1gb).
This is a work laptop that I don't have access to modify or change any parameters but my main issue is the PC and not getting the speeds.
With my S25 Ultra I get 422Mbps which leads me to think it is the router itself which has an issue?

Re: Slow broadband speed
To me it doesnt look like there is anything wrong to be honest
- Your S25 seems to be getting very reasonable speeds for WiFi so not an issue there
- Your work laptop is locked down and could be running all manner of things that slow the network down on it like VPN, scanning tools, anti virus etc so its not an accurate test
- Your PC looks to be using 80Mhz AC WiFi, which isnt ideal to get more than a few hundred mbps. Ideally it should 80Mhz at AX at least, potentially even 160Mhz at AX.
To improve the speeds you need either use ethernet to your PC (Or at least do this to test your Sky hub first), or understand why your PC isnt using WiFi 6. Which Sky hub do you have?

Re: Slow broadband speed
Hi James,
Thanks for the response - My motherboard is a ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING WIFI II which should be capable of up to 2.4Gbps.
That is my internet adapter setting but has a link speed of 866Mbps.
Its just the Sky Broadband hub that I have.
I hope this information can help.

Re: Slow broadband speed
Yes I see your problem, you have the Sky Broadband hub which is only WiFi 5 (AC), although theoretical speeds of WiFi 5 are in excess of 1Gbps, real world examples you would get around 300-800mbps. I would recommend you either upgrade your Sky hub to the Max or Gigafast hub or get a 3rd party router which is WiFi 6 or better.
As for checking your actual line speed, I would still recommend temporarily connecting your PC via ethernet to your Sky hub so you can check you are getting that speed down the line.

Re: Slow broadband speed
@ianmclean1984 In your 2nd post, the 2nd picture (the 1st has been rejected for some reason) has the caption "This is from the PC on Ethernet...", is that correct as it looks to be a Dell laptop?
What does the MySky app say the router is receiving?

Re: Slow broadband speed
The second picture with the Dell showing is the laptop - not PC (apologies).
The App on my phone says from the Speed to you hub is 697Mb/s timed at 03:05am this morning

No problem, just trying to make sense of what I was seeing.
Speed to the hub can seem low given you're on 900Mbps, but this could due to congestion at that time or a variety of other reasons. I think 600Mbps is your guaranteed minimum? Can you test on the PC using an ethernet cable? Download the Ookla Speedtest app from the Windows store rather than use the browser.
