Sky ultrafast poor speeds

So, around 6 weeks ago, I upgraded to Sky ultrafast with a promise of 500mbps download.  The maximum I've managed to get was the low 400's very briefly but the average is around 180.

I've been seeing that the router should be able to pump out 500mbps.  It seems pointless paying the extra for such an intermittent service.

Has anyone else found this?

@TomFeathers87Could you please run a speed test via ethernet or hardwired connected to the router.

i am supposed tog et minimum 44mb and getting half that. just switched from EE to SKY and getting same speed i was getting with them.

talked on phone to sky and he did speed test and can see some issues so engeneer is coming out friday...our house phone has stopped working also!

I get around 517 Mbps down and 77 Mbps up on a wired connection and around 420 Mbps on my phone.

I have similar issues. I get about 40mb on the Wi-Fi, but plugged Ethernet into tout and went to FAST website as suggested and got 370 sometimes 400. So that suggests to me that the Wi-Fi is the issue. However I get the slower speed on Wi-Fi standing next to the router. Is there a config I can change on the router?

Ok, that lasted about 5 mins and speed dropped right down to around 25. Could it be being throttled at the exchange or cabinet?

Ultrafast packages are designed to be able to deliver UHD streaming speeds to many devices at once and not to provide 500mbps over WiFi to a single device. While it may technically be possible to do this and some users may find they can, its very unlikely to consistently get these speeds over WiFi on an budget ISP router, you'd need to look at getting a 3rd party router.

Download to the Hub, not WiFi speed from it.
