Sky broadband dropout potential solution?

For 7/8 weeks I've been experiencing random drop outs (speeds are unaffected), sometimes 2 or 3 times a day, sometimes 10 or 12, however these past few days it's been getting worse. Openreach have been out 4 times already, replacing copper cables, connections, etc, they were always at a miss as to what the issue could be.

Yesterday after the 3rd drop out in 1 hour I decided to do 2 things, replace the phone cable from the router to the master socket (a long shot but an easy thing to try), and take off the front panel of the master socket and plug a filter in its place. For over 24hrs now I haven't had a drop out, I'm praying it will stay this way. My guess is that by putting in a filter it's somehow bypassed the issue, whatever that may be. Has anyone else had an issue with their master socket faceplate? And if I've solved it why would the faceplate cause drop outs in the first place?

By taking the faceplate off you are disconnecting any extension wiring thats in your home. This extension wiring can often cause problems for your router if its poor quality or experiencing interference.

There aren't any other extension cables coming off it, it's just the BT cable coming in from outside straight to the master socket, nothing else.  Openreach have now done everything they can possibly do, I'm still having the same issue.

In that case it would suggest a faulty faceplate if you dont experience the issue while using the test socket. Is there anything stopping you just using the test socket? I have done this at a previous home as it improved things slightly for me.

Re: Sky broadband dropout potential solution?

That's what I thought, however it was changed twice and I was still getting the issue. The last Openreach guy installed an older faceplate where I put in a separate filter as he thought the same , was working fine until I got 2 dropouts yesterday morning. I'm thinking it now could be a router issue. I'm looking at purchasing a 3rd party Asus router instead of using Sky's.
