I have been getting intermittent broadband issues lately. Usually the manifest themselves with the internet dropping out for a short period of time. Today I had a stranger issue. The internet was working when connected to the Sky router directly by wifi. However all other devices around the house which (APs, wired switches etc.) did not have access to the internet. We also have Sky Q and 2 mini boxes. To resolve the issue I rebooted the Sky router (this didnt help) but then disconnected all other devices that were connected to the router via my switch. I then reconnected each one individually and checked at each point they were working. I have now reconnected everything and things are still working! I suspect its something to do with the IP leasing of the Sky router or maybe some Sky Q mesh interference but I really am flummuxed! My router logs are:
You can see a lot of these "lease renewd ..." lines - I have noticed more and more of these.
My router stats are:
I phoned Sky just now and theres a message saying that people have reported internet issues and to fix it you need to turn off your router for 5 mins and also devices connected to it. Are these things related?
I have very confused.
Thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYou have a few collision packets on the LAN which suggests that could have been the issue. Obviously you'd expect to see more for a major issue but since the router was rebooted the count is low.
Are the switches managed at all or are the APs using a different IP address space?

thank you @jamesn123 . The switches are unmanaged and the APs "should" be on the same IP address space (10.xxx etc). I say should as I pinged my son who says he installed an AP in his room and says its ip address is 192.xxx !!! So I will take a look at that.
But on the lease issue in the logs, is that ok?
Thanks

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreLooking at your logs it shows an Admin login from the 10.xxx.xxx.xxx adress space which suggests your Sky hub is configured for that address space. If your APs are indeed configured for a different address space that could be the problem.
The lease renewals are entirely normal, this is your hub telling the Sky servers that its still using the public IP.

Thanks @jamesn123 . So yes the home network (and sky router) are all on 10.xxx.
This rogue AP (actually a router which isnt really meant to be an AP) had an IP address of 192.xxx but was trafficing that network flow to 10.xxx.
I have now moved it also to a 10.xxx static IP (outside of the Sky routers DHCP range).
Hopefully that should fix things!
Thanks again for your help.
