Sky Q Box & New Router

I've changed my broadband from Sky to Plus net.

I am now unable to connect my Sky Q Box to the new router, and subsequently all my Mini Boxes to the Sky Q Box.

My Sky Q Box isn't connected to a TV it's in a separate room hard wired to the satellite.

I have had no Sky for 6 weeks all over Christmas.

I've tried never step of rebook, wbs, only have one turned on, etc.

Please can you explain the process when the man Sky Q Box isn't linked to a TV. This was how the Sky installer set it all up for me originally.

Done.

All systems off, temporary monitor, set up main Sky Q, then each subsequent mini box.

Thank you all for the information, it is much appreciated.

Can't be done: you need to see video output from the main Q box to reset the network connection on it.

Keep in mind that you are running Q in a way that was never intended.

@SkyIsKillingMe

Incidentally it's not working because a Plusnet router has a default IP address of 192.168.1.254 while all Sky Hubs use 192.168.0.1

I guess in theory you could try changing the Plusnet setting to that of a Sky Hub: that might  then permit WPS to work.  Messing with default router IP isn't trivial though.

@TimmyBGood Are you sure, would have thought the sky Q would default on a DHCP issued address!

I think it will retain the settings issued by the Sky Hub until the network is manually reset.

@SkyIsKillingMe Have added further up but @TimmyBGood network reset may just be the get out off jail, not used sky Q for at least 5 years now went to my own Sat controller box!

Re: Sky Q Box & New Router

@SkyIsKillingMe May also be worth a look on your sky account that the TV side is still attached and you are being billed for it and sky have not done something silly like cancel it all with the OTS broadband move to Plusnet!

Your also going to have to put a TV on the main sky Q box to make all these adjustment's you do need to see the screen pictures and follow all the step's, just NO other way to do it i'm afraid!

Re: Sky Q Box & New Router

Thank you all for the inputs.

Interesting reads and a few threads to pull on.

I've checked and they are still billing the other services.

Agree it is not a standard set up but it's what Sky did when the arrived ...

I will update tomorrow once few things tried.

Re: Sky Q Box & New Router

Do you think if I move a TV to the box, set up and then set up the mini boxes I could then remove the other TV from the main box and nothing will fall over ...... ?

This is going to be my first thread to pull on tomorrow.

Re: Sky Q Box & New Router

@SkyIsKillingMe You only can try, bit off faffing about just not having the TV on the main sky Q box, and sure hope it all holds up when you get the network all connected, should not take you more than an hour to do, but you are relying on the sky Q now with the sky Hub out off the picture with mesh to your mini's!

Re: Sky Q Box & New Router

Understood and agree.

Frustratingly as a customer for over 10

years (Sky & Broadband), I only changed out of principle as Sky wouldn't match Plus Net (circa £8 a month difference).

Didn't expect this level of pain after 😂!

I will report in the morning!

As I noted above, realistically there's only a very limited amount of support Sky can offer when a user is choosing to run the main Q box without a television set: by definition that's where core configuration is set.
