Sky Max Router WiFi issues

Using 5ghz channel since fibre installed to property seems to have had a negative effect on extent of WiFi even with sky max booster. Is sky max router stuck on one channel and has it affected its ability to automatically choose the best as it's supposed to. Too coincidental for there to be no cause and effect.

@Luscinia no the Sky Max hub automstically selects the best 5GHz channel to use if you suspect there is interference a reboot restarts the channel optimisation. The process is required to be automatic as the SR213 can use the DFS channels in the 5GHz band when there are no higher priority users like radar installations within range. 

The pod boosters connect back to the hub using a closed signal in the 5GHz band this helps improve throughput but in many UK homes can be an issue as the higher the frequency the greater the signal loss when passing through solid objects like walls. 

The lower frequency 2.4GHz band loses less power so has a longer range but can carry less data and is more likely to suffer interference as the band can only support 3 or at most 4 signals which dont interfere. To get higher speeds WiFi6 uses both bands which us why you cannot split bands

I understand that. I have had the SKY Max hub and booster since January with no problem. I have had 3 bars on WiFi throughout my house on 3 floors until 2nd July after switch to full fibre. Now the WiFi

 signal is not consistently at 3 bars and even changes as I walk I across my downstairs kitchen with door open. All rooms have open doors and downstairs to upstairs is open plan access to router. Why the change just with full fibre? This difference wasn't explained especially as we were happy with the speeds we were getting before fibre...

@Luscinia was the hub moved when full fibre was installed? The best position is out in the open on a surface off the flooryou can buy a longer Ethernet cable tolink the hub to the fibre ONT unit if necessary.

Hi, thanks but no. The only thing that changed was the WiFi strength/signal. We used to be able to use signal in the garden. Now it converts to 4G which doesn't work due to poor mobile service in this area. So frustrating. Why change what worked ok?

In general WiFi 6 should be an improvement on WiFi 5 (although most benefit comes from having WiFi 6 client devices)

Unfortunately it's still unclear why the Max Hub appears to underperform in some properties.
