Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
Hi,
We had our BB swapped for fibre and Max Hub plus the Max Pod this week. Previously the router was in the hallway in the middle of the house with an ethernet connected from there to a cabin in the garden. However, the new router is no longer in the middle of the house and instead we have the pod there with the ethernet port connected to the cabin. This does not seem to work. I can plug a laptop into the port just fine but maybe the long run of ethernet is outside of its capability? At this point I'm about to call Sky to move the new router into the hall but this means routing cables around the skirting etc which is not ideal. Any other options open to me? The wifi signal is not as strong as before either so had a few drop outs from some devices so not sure if the pod is doing what it should very well. Thanks.

@JungleS2K moving the fibre entry point and ONT is likely to beccomplex if it is possible. However you can yourself source an Ethernet cable of sufficent length and use that to connectvthe hub to the ONT allowing you to movectge hub. Ethernet cables are easily available in whatever length you require and assuming it is rated as cat5e or higher should not affect the speed.

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
Thanks for the reply. The fibre entry point could stay as-is but the ONT could be moved. I'd rather have fibre running around the house than an Ethernet cable. Not sure if taking it round the exterior of the house is an option. I'll check with Sky. Beginning to wish we hadn't swapped from the old FTTC. Currently this is impacting my wife's home business that's run from the cabin.

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
As an update I called Sky and they are sending someone out (though there is a bit of a wait). In the mean time I've lashed up an ethernet extension from the cabin cable to the router. It works for now.

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
@JungleS2K You may find that the Sky or OR Engineer will advise against moving the ONT as running the Fibre internal is just not as easy as the Ethernet cable, that is why they stuck the ONT and Fibre on the wall to keep both short and semi protected.
But yes you have the major headache now, so it is a longer Ethernet cable to the new position which was your existing place for the old hub, and wan connect it back to the ONT! But as you say wait and see what they think when you get the visit!
The Pod Ethernet does not bridge well so that is why you will be getting issues trying to connect your remote office back that way and speed issue also!
Powerline Lan if the distance is short may work Hall and ONT, just do not expect fantastic speed's

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
Thanks @JimM1 that's really helpful. The power line option is worth looking at. Speed is not a problem so much as reliability. So sub 50Mbps would be be fine if it worked. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
@JungleS2K I use the Tp-Link AV600 have done for years, but the AV1000 are the replacements now as obsoleted the 600, here is 2 tp-link types you see what suits best, all down to socket's for the home, AND NO powerstrips, they just hate working on those. These are both just lan connection only!
TL-PA7017 KIT | AV1000 Gigabit Powerline Starter Kit | TP-Link United Kingdom
TL-PA8010P KIT | AV1300 Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit | TP-Link United Kingdom

Re: Sky Max Pod ethernet to cabin
Hi @JimM1
Thought I'd update on my issue. Thanks for the tip on the powerline solution. I bought a TPLink set and so far so good. No ugly cables between router and cabin ethernet ingress point and the cabin is connected just fine. I'll keep an eye on it for a couple of days before cancelling the Sky visit.
