Sky Max Hub booster options

Hey,

I moved to Sky broadband at the end of last, previously with Brawband and had a booster at one end of the house.  All devices worked well including external security cameras.

I am on the Fulll Gigafast 900 package with a Sky Max Hub.

My external cameras are not receiving a signal from this box and I assumed getting a booster would help fix this! However, after speaking to Sky multiple times, they have said I cannot get a booster wtih this hub and that I need to pay an extra £8 a month for Sky Wifi Max add on service.  Which I am obviously reluctant to do as this defeats the point of moving to Sky and making a montly saving.  The reply I got form them is below.  So my question is, can I get a booster that will actually work? It seems fairly daft if nothing is compatible.

With your current Full Gigafast 900 package, Sky guarantees a minimum WiFi speed of **25Mb/s in every room**.

However, WiFi boosters are only included as part of the **Sky WiFi Max** add-on, which is a separate service.

I understand this is frustrating, especially as your previous provider included boosters. Without WiFi Max, boosters are not provided as standard with your current package.

Unfortunately that's correct: the Max booster pod is only loaned to WiFi Max subscribers (and any Max pods sourced elsewhere won't work at all)

However you can choose to use non-Sky wireless 'booster' or 'mesh' products as you see fit: they just won't appear in the My Sky app for administration or diagnostics there.

Re: Sky Max Hub booster options

Hi @RyeRae

Personally I prefer not to be handcuffed to the supplier, let alone pay them more per month for the privelege of loaning boosters!

A mesh network is the best way to go to ensure seamless wi-fi around your home. This can be as cheap or expensive as you wish, since there are many different suppliers out there starting at under £100 to several hundred pounds depending on the speeds/functions that you need. I personally went for Amazon Eero 6's as I got a good deal on a 3 pack a couple of years ago however there are now many that are cheaper/better value - you just need to decide what features you need and do your research before buying. The bonus is that if/when you move from Sky to another provider, you still have the Mesh in place which makes it very easy and painless.

Good luck.
