Sky Max Hub Not Sending Signal to Switch

Hi Everybody,

Firstly, your help is appreciated.

I recently had a new sky max internet hub installed, the signal is good across most of the house, but as I have ehternet ports in some rooms including the lounge means I wanted to utilise them. I connected a tp link switch TP-Link TL-SG108S ) to the sky router, but there is no signal reacing the splitter, or therefore into the other rooms - there are no lights on the switch.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how this can be fixed or the reason why the signal is not going to the internet switch?

Thanks in advance

Re: Sky Max Hub Not Sending Signal to Switch

Thank you for commenting and helping. The electrician had previously been reluctant to pulling up the floor boards and check the cable to the cupboad (switch) but he replaced the cable yesterday and now the switch is recieving signal. Additionally, I check the ethernet port downstairs in the lounge and that is recieving a data / working too.

Thanks for your help.

@RyanBuckman Where did you connect the Sky Max Hub port and it's port number too with respect to the port of the Tp-Link switch!

Are you also confident that the house wiring network has all been done correctly!

Re: Sky Max Hub Not Sending Signal to Switch

Hi Jim,

Port 4 - Is connected to the open reach port in the wall. Which I believe has to be the case?

So I used 1, then 2, then 3 to connect to the internet switch.

Thanks,

Ryan

Re: Sky Max Hub Not Sending Signal to Switch

@RyanBuckman You need to do some investigation, new builds seem to have ethernet points in various rooms but they always appear to end up in a multi patch socket that appears to be mostly loacated in a cupboard and generally where the ONT seams to get located. If that is the case then Hub gets put there, and not the best place for it to be as a wireless operating device, then you can patch out from that point using the hub lan ports, not enough thought goes into the wiring for the home network side when they do these builds.

then point check that all the external connections are fine by using an Ethernet device like a laptop around all the various room connections. Switch would not be needed unless you have an area with multiple network points that are external.

You can post a picture up if i think it is what you are trying to do,

@RyanBuckman the most likely cause is the cable but it is worth testing the ports on the Sky hub with another device. Also check the switch is being powered by a power supply as no Sky hub provides power over Ethernet .
