Sky Gigafast 900
Hi all, just had sky gigafast 900 installed. I've connected the SR203 router to the Skyq box by Ethernet cable. I tested a 3.2gb film to download and it took 13 minutes! The router was connected at 680mbs. I changed from Ethernet to WiFi and had a similar result. I then did a speed check on my iPhone with the phone next to the router and got 380mbs. I then moved my phone 5 feet away still in line with the router and got 180mbs. Why is it so slow? Would a newer router help? Tia

Perhaps note that the Sky Q ecosystem (including the storage servers at the far end) is only designed to download fast enough to provide uninterrupted viewing, not slurp data to disk as quickly as possible. Earlier Q boxes only have 100Mbs ethernet chipsets.
Your download time indicates a speed of around 30Mbs, which is more than enough for consuming UHD content.

@TimmyBGood Surely all Q boxes use Fast Ethernet ports (100Mbps) rather than Gigafast?
@jezlomax My TV (and probably yours) does 88Mbps over the ethernet cable due to the same 100Mbps ethernet port that the Q box has, over wifi it hits around 280Mbps. The difference in wifi performance is due to the age and lesser wifi antennas in the Q box. Both are more than fast enough for their purposes.
My old Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite (used as a wireless controller nowadays) hits 514Mbps on my Sky 500Mbps broadband, whilst my much newer and otherwise more capable Honor 200 Lite only hits 304Mbps. The Honor uses a 1x1 MIMO single-antenna setup due to the thin design, the Xiaomi uses a 2x2 MIMO dual-antenna. It's all swings and roundabouts, not that either phone need more speed.

I don't recall what the final version had. They certainly don't need gigabit .

The V2 and V3 boxes have gigabit ethernet, the old V1 and minis have fast ethernet.

Re: Sky Gigafast 900
I thought I remembered something like that. Presumably it was down to component availability rather than the actual bandwidth requirement.

Re: Sky Gigafast 900
@jezlomaxsame here and the responses will be the same, I'm on gigfast 900, but have never received those speeds, consistently above 600, but never above 700.

Re: Sky Gigafast 900
@jezlomax the SR203 supports WiFi5 so its maximum WiFi speed is around 650Mb/s the newer white SR213 supports WiFi6 which can handle 900Mb/s. However the newer hubs dont play nicely with Sky Q so you are better sticking with the SR203.
Youneed sufficent WiFi speed for your applications and for phones thst is sround 100Mb/s znything more msy speedup downloads a bit but are unlikely to result in other activities being faster. Streaming UHD video to an app like Netflix is only going to use under 30Mb/s. These higher speed packages are more about more simultaenous users then speed to a single device.
